Why choose the Auto-Drain Shower System

Stagnant water can create a rich environment for the growth of Legionella and other waterborne pathogens. While current construction and practices have been designed to reduce water stagnation, shower areas remain a top concern.

The Chicago Faucets Auto-Drain™ Shower System is designed to help reduce water that is sitting in the valve, pipes, and hoses of the shower system. Drains integrated into the valve and hand spray hose remove water from the system after each use. Watch how:

The Auto-Drain Shower System Adds Stagnation Prevention to the +Healthcare Line of Products

The Auto-Drain™ Shower System has multiple configuration options - complete stagnation prevention shower with fixed shower head, with hand spray with hose, diverter valve, or retrofit kit for existing shower hose.

Sustainable low-flow also available! Chicago Faucets has expanded the Auto-Drain shower fittings to include the use of 1.5 GPM shower heads and hand sprays. This complies with California Green Building Standards.

Thermostatic/Pressure Balancing and Pressure Balance Shower Valve Options

Auto-Drain Shower System has a choice of trims with thermostatic/pressure balancing valve with either an integrated valve drain or a separate drain valve. It is available with the Auto-Drain hose and hand spray or with a shower head. Grab bars and slide bars are also available to order. Each item will need to be ordered individually to customize your Auto-Drain Shower System.

The Auto-Drain Commercial Shower System is the first-of-its-kind shower that automatically drains standing water from the diverter pipe and hand-spray hose. Purging residual water helps to prevent the growth of harmful waterborne pathogens, like Legionella. Auto-Drain commercial shower systems are ideal for hospitals, nursing homes, long term care, assisted living, schools, gyms, athletic centers, stadiums, churches, camps, offices and other places where showers may be shut down for periods of time. Avoid Outbreaks of Legionella

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the main focus should be all types of healthcare facilities. Recent examples include: an Ohio hospital had a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak that resulted in eight illnesses and one death. One month later, an Atlanta Hotel had an outbreak that resulted in 11 guests diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. This is a life-threatening form of pneumonia that occurs when the Legionella bacterium is inhaled.

Since Covid-19 many closed or limited use buildings with showers have not resumed regular busy hours. It is not just hospitals, long term care centers or clinics that should be concerned about Legionella. Hotels, schools, offices and athletic facilities may also have the Legionella bacterium in their water systems..
